How do you make dairy free chocolate chip cookies?
The two biggest reasons that chocolate chip cookies are not dairy free is the butter and the chocolate chips themselves. Luckily, these two things can easily be swapped out with a dairy free chocolate chip and vegan butter.
Once you make these two swaps, you can proceed to make any cookie recipe as you normally would. If you are looking to make your recipe completely vegan, like we do in our dairy free chocolate chip cookie recipe, then you would need to also swap out the eggs. In replace of eggs, we use flax eggs.
How do you make flax eggs?
In order to make a flax egg, you need one tablespoon of ground flax seeds and three tablespoons of water. If you need to replace multiple eggs in a recipe, then you would use this amount PER egg you are replacing. Once you combine the ground flax seeds and water, whisk together until the mixture starts to become gelatinous. Then, let mixture sit for 15 minutes.
You can use flax eggs in many recipes, like these dairy free chocolate chip cookies, and other recipes such as muffins, pancakes, or brownies.
