Approving Comments on Make It Dairy Free

Thank you for choosing to try recipes or learn more about veganism at Make It Dairy Free. We have been creating on this website since 2018 and we take great pride in our work.

With doing work in an online setting, we know that we are subject to critiques and criticisms. We know that not everyone will enjoy the same meals that we enjoy and guess what!? That’s 100% okay.

We do want to clarify our commenting and approval policy as of September 2024. This policy is in effect for ALL comments whether complimenting or critiquing. We treat every comment with the same policy outlined here.

Why was my comment not approved or my star ratings removed?

There are a few reasons that your comment may not have been approved or that we removed your star ratings all together. Please not that we never INCREASE star ratings.

First, I need to say that we are only two people working here and only one person on approving comments. Sometimes we are weeks behind in approving. Therefore, sometimes we haven’t deleted your comment, it’s just not approved yet. We are actively working to fix the system we have in place so it’s approved within 72 hours.

You didn’t make the recipe at all.

Sometimes people believe they need to hit the star button in order for the comment to be approved. This isn’t the case. If your comment appears that you have not made the recipe, but you have rated it, your star ratings will be removed (no matter if it’s a 1 star or 5 star) before the comment is approve.

Comments such as “I can’t wait to make this” or “I have a question before I make this” will trigger this type of response.

You didn’t make the recipe as written or changed the recipe.

If you rated the recipe with less than 5-stars but say something along the lines of “I made the recipe as written and only changed XYZ and didn’t like it” or “it was just okay but I didn’t have XYZ ingredient” or “I can’t have XYZ ingredient so I omitted it” then-

Your star rating will be removed as you didn’t make the recipe as written, therefore you cannot base a rating on a recipe that is not the one we shared.

You rated the recipe low but there is no feedback on what the issue was.

If your rating is 3 stars or less, but you don’t give feedback on the issue, we reserve the right to remove the rating.

Please specify what your concerns are with the recipe so that we can take your feedback seriously and consider suggestions in the future.

You rated the recipe negatively based on non-vegan ingredients.

If you rate the recipe lower than 5-stars and your reasoning is because “there’s no chicken or dairy product” in the recipe, then we reserve the right to delete your comment altogether.

This is a 100% vegan recipe website and your feedback on adding non-vegan ingredients is not helpful.

Non-helpful advice that doesn’t benefit others

We see this type of comment most often on our resource or taste test posts. Comments like “veganism is not healthy” or “boycott X brand” will not be approved. Nor will comments to other posters about how they could/should be doing veganism better.

You submitted the same or similar comment quickly.

We won’t approve two of the same comments from the same user. Whichever comment was first or has more detail will be approved first and the second (or more) deleted.

You say you hated the recipe, but not why.

We will remove this comment altogether as this is not helpful for the community looking for feedback on the recipe nor does it give helpful criticism on how we could potentially alter the recipe in the future.

You gave a low rating based on nothing to do with the recipe.

If you leave a rating that has nothing to do with the recipe, “seems like a good recipe but we don’t have XYZ ingredient where I live” or “I don’t like your substitutions you listed” or “there’s no metric measurements”.

These types of comments are not helpful for the recipe and should not have a star rating attached. We will remove the star rating entirely and approve the comment with a response.

You used foul language.

Andrew and I can both curse like a sailor when needed or wanted, but saying comments like “this was Sh*tty” or “recipe f*cking sucked” will be immediately deleted.

Please know that we strive to approve all comments that offer helpful and/or constructive critiques of the recipe. We value your input and encourage you to continue sharing your thoughts with us.

If you have any questions or would like further clarification on why your comment was not approved, please feel free to reach out by emailing us at makeitdairyfreetoday dot com.

Thank you for your understanding.
