We taste tested 9 different vegan mayo brands! We’re dishing out all the details on which is the best in our vegan mayo review and taste test!
We weren’t sure if we would ever do this taste test to tell you the truth, but if you are here and reading this vegan mayo review and taste test, then we did in fact do one!
Andrew doesn’t like mayo. There’s maybe 2 things in this world he would put it on ad it has to be insanely thin layer. We knew before we even discussed this video that he wouldn’t be in the video to do any of the actual taste testing.
But, we kept seeing requests for this one, so here we are.
We went into this taste test with Larisha thinking that she knew which one was going to be her favorite – the Just brand. While it’s pretty hard to find at this point, if they can find it, they grab some. It’s the go to brand, but would it stack up against the other brands side by side.
If you haven’t seen our other taste tests, we hope you’ll check those out as well.

Honestly can you believe we were able to find 9 different ones?
Eight different brands, 9 total mayos. The were no flavored ones like chipotle mayo or anything like that. The crazy part is knowing that this isn’t all of them. There were other brands that we weren’t able to find or aren’t located near us.

PSA:
We know that everyone has different taste buds. What we may think is the best, may completely vary from what you actually like.
You may ultimately think our best is the worst and that’s okay. We created this video as hopefully a starting point for people and we can only go off our opinion.

What vegan mayo brands did we try?
Despite trying out 9 different brands, we know that there are even more out there. We just didn’t find them local to us. The brands that we did find and try are:
- Spectrum
- Good & Gather
- Follow Your Heart Original
- Sir Kensingtons
- Celebrate Health
- Hellmans
- Chosen Foods
- Earth Balance
- Follow Your Heart Soy Free
How did we do the vegan mayo taste test?
It was really quite simple.
We made some homemade vegan french fries (follow the link for our recipe and we did steps 1-5)
We then dipped a french fries into each vegan mayo brand and then taste each one.
We were looking for mostly taste and texture. Our goal was to find the one closest to what we remember egg-based mayo tasting like.
Since Andrew didn’t taste these, we did a blind taste test where Larisha didn’t know which ones she was trying at the time of trying them.
Follow Your Heart Veganaise
Thoughts: We tried both the Follow Your Heart Original Vegenaise and the Follow Your Heart Soy-Free Vegenaise. We were surprised how little we liked both of these because we like many other Follow Your Heart products.
For the original, we said it tasted like too much mustard was added and the soy-free one said it had an artificial taste. Both of them we commented on how thick they were and not as smooth as traditional mayo.
Follow Your Heart also has vegan mayo versions with avocado oil and grapeseed oil, in addition to an organic one, a reduced fat one and a variety of flavored ones like chipotle mayo or roasted garlic mayo.

Spectrum Culinary Vegan Light Canola Mayo
Thoughts: The Spectrum Vegan Mayo has a weird texture in the bowl and was a little too tangy at the end but ultimately it was in our Top 4. The texture you could notice if you were spreading it on or in something.
Where to Buy: Spectrum Store Locator
Ingredients: Filtered water, expeller pressed canola oil, cornstarch, distilled white vinegar, apple cider vinegar, sea salt, soy protein isolate, lemon juice concentrate, xanthan gum, onion powder, natural vitamin E mixed tocopherols, rosemary extract, mustard oil, turmeric extract, extractives of paprika.
Top Allergens: Soy
Price: $4.99
Celebrate Health Vegan Mayo
Thoughts: This was actually our #1; however, it appears that it’s an Australian brand and it’s hard to find here. We randomly spotted this while shopping in Home Goods and it was on clearance for $3. We knew this taste test was coming up so we purchased it to add to our list. A google search only comes up with being able to purchase on Amazon where it’s almost $17.
Honestly, we wouldn’t recommend anyone pay $17 for this. There are other brands out there there are just as comparable, but if you can find it for under $5, then we totally would buy again.
Where to Buy: Amazon (see notes above)
Ingredients: Canola Oil, Water, Distilled Vinegar, Salt, Corn Starch, Mustard, Faba Bean Protein, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Natural Flavors, Xanthan Gum, Stevia Extract.
Top Allergens: None.
Price: $3.00
Earth Balance Mindful Dressing & Sandwich Spread Original
Thoughts: We love Earth balance vegan butter options, so we were happy to find this one. However, it was the only one we actually got up to spit out. It was gross and we wouldn’t even try it again to try to identify why we didn’t like it.
Earth Balance also makes an olive oil based vegan mayo.
Where to Buy: Earth Balance Store Locator
Ingredients: EXPELLER-PRESSED CANOLA OIL, WATER, BROWN RICE SYRUP, APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, PEA PROTEIN, SALT, MUSTARD FLOUR, LEMON JUICE CONCENTRATE.’
Top Allergens: None.

Just Mayo
Thoughts: We went into this taste test saying that the Just brand was our favorite and it ended up in our Top 3. We did say during the blind taste test that it was light and not as much tang as we thought it should have.
It’s important to note that Just Mayo is exceptionally hard to find. Sometimes you can locate it in Wal-mart and it appears that more Whole Foods locations are carrying small bottles. If you do find it, it’s a great one to purchase.
Where to Buy: Whole Foods
Ingredients: Expeller-pressed Canola Oil, Water, White Distilled Vinegar, Contains Less Than 2% of Lemon Juice Concentrate, Modified Food Starch, Pea Protein, Salt, Spice, Sugar, Fruit and Vegetable Juice (Color)
Top Allergens: None.
Price: $5.49
Good & Gather Vegan Dressing (Mayo)
Thoughts: From our understanding this is a newer vegan mayo. This is the Target store brand which in the video we originally thought was the vegan Hellman’s (so maybe it’s a rebranded one). We liked that you can taste the tang but it was a little thicker than we thought it should be. Ultimately this was in our Top 3.
This one is also the cheapest one that we tasted.
Where to Buy: Target Stores
Ingredients: Canola Oil, Water, Contains Less Than 2% Of: Vinegar, Sea Salt, Pea Protein, Sugar, Ground Mustard Seeds, Modified Corn Starch, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Mustard Oil (Spice, Sunflower Oil), Beta-Carotene (Color).
Top Allergens: None.
Price: $2.49
Sir Kensington’s Classic Vegan Mayo
Thoughts: We didn’t like this at all. It was darker in color, you could see the spices, and ultimately tastes like expired tanginess. It was smoother than many of the other ones. There are other flavors of their vegan mayo as well like Special Sauce and an Avocado Oil based one.
This was the most expensive one that we purchased.
Where to Buy: Sir Kensington’s Store Locator
Ingredients: High Oleic Sunflower Oil, Organic Aquafaba (Water, Chickpeas), Organic Lemon Juice, Fair Trade Organic Coconut Sugar, Salt, Distilled Vinegar, Acacia Gum, Rosemary Extract, Xanthan Gum, Black Pepper, Citric Acid, Mustard Extract, Lemon Oil.
Top Allergens: None
Price: $7.99
Hellman’s Vegan Dressing and Spread
Thoughts: We went into the taste test with this one in our fridge. It’s the one that we’ve been buying when we need vegan mayo but can’t find the Just mayo. We also thought two of the one’s tried were Hellman’s but neither of them were. When we discovered which one was mayo the notes on the paper said “Texture is good but doesn’t taste like mayo – no tang”.
It was honesty mind blowing to read that considering we liked this one going into the taste test.
Where to Buy: Follow Your Heart Store Locator
Ingredients: Sunflower Oil, Water, Modified Food Starch (Potato, Corn), Distilled Vinegar, Contains 2% Or Less Of Each Of The Following: Sugar, Salt, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Sorbic Acid And Calcium Disodium Edta (Used To Protect Quality), Natural Flavor, Paprika Extract.

Are these vegan mayo brands allergy friendly?
We listed the allergens under each but just so it’s easier to find we wanted to list it here as well.
All of these are vegan so they are automatically dairy free and egg free. None of them listed gluten, treenuts, or peanuts as an ingredients. They are also all fish and shellfish free.
That leaves soy as top allergens in the US.
Only the Original Follow Your Heart Vegenaise and the Spectrum Vegan Mayo contained soy.
We actually purchased the soy-free Vegenaise at the first store we went to thinking that we wouldn’t be able to find other soy-free vegan mayos so we were very surprised when so many of them were soy free.
Who was the winner?
Okay. I put you through all that just to make you wait until here until I announce the winner. You know, wait with baited breath, type of thing! HA!
Again, we were pleasantly surprised with all the brands we were able to find and what that means for the future of those of us that are vegan or living a dairy free lifestyle.
Now, without further ado!
Our top 4 brands would be:
- Celebrate Health
- Good & Gather
- Just
- Spectrum
Larisha didn’t like at all Sir Kensingtons, Earth Balance, and Follow Your Heart Soy Free Veganaise mayos.

Do you know of a recipe for a “good” homemade mayo?? Particularly with no vinegar?? I have tried so many. We stay away from vinegar and I have yet to see any store bought condiments that don’t use it…save one lemon garlic dressing from Annie’s…
If you have any wisdom I’d love to hear it!! Love your site!!
LarishaBernard
I’m sorry we don’t have a recommendation for that at this time. Depending on what you are making though you could try to do a mixture of mashed avocado, water/oil, lemon juice
Cec
Did you skip the Chosen Foods one for some reason?
LarishaBernard
Sorry we mentioned it in the video, but we skipped it because we accidentally grabbed the wrong one and the one we had grabbed was not vegan.
Aly
I really thought Hellman’s was gonna be at least top 3!! Haha. That’s the first vegan one I tried and it tasted similar enough I never ventured out. Never knew Just Egg had a Mayo. Thanks you guys for doing these comparisons. I absolutely love your page!!
LarishaBernard
Thank you!
