We taste tested 10 different vegan ranch brands! We’re dishing out all the details on which is the best in our vegan ranch review and taste test!
We have been asked so many times for a review on vegan ranch but truth is we don’t really buy any. So we did, finally and today we’re going to share the best store bought vegan ranch review.
If we are being honest before we even get into this review, we will likely continue to use our favorite vegan mayo and make our own homemade vegan ranch dressing. We haven’t priced out the exact cost to see if it’s cheaper or not but it likely is and the flavor is so much fresher and the texture is spot on.
That being said, we did find some good options that we think you may like, especially if you don’t want to make it yourself. And of course some not so good ones.
If you haven’t seen our other taste tests, we hope you’ll check those out as well.

Honestly can you believe we were able to find 10 different ones? The crazy part is knowing that this isn’t all of them. There were other brands that we weren’t able to find or aren’t located near us.

PSA:
We know that everyone has different taste buds. What we may think is the best, may completely vary from what you actually like.
You may ultimately think our best is the worst and that’s okay. We created this video as hopefully a starting point for people and we can only go off our opinion.

What vegan ranch brands did we try?
Despite trying out 9 different brands, we know that there are even more out there. We just didn’t find them local to us. The brands that we did find and try are:
- Hidden Valley
- Daiya
- Follow Your Heart
- Wayfare
- Plant Perfect
- 365 Whole Foods
- Primal Kitchen
- Field and Farmer
- Kite Hill
- Mill It
How did we do the vegan ranch taste test?
It was really quite simple.
We made some homemade vegan french fries (follow the link for our recipe and we did steps 1-5)
We then dipped a french fries into each vegan ranch brand and then taste each one.
We were looking for mostly taste and texture. Our goal was to find the one closest to what we remember dairy based ranch tasting like.
Daiya Homestyle Ranch Dressing
Thoughts: It was one of the thicker ones that are labeled dressing but Larisha straight you tasted only mayo, then only vinegar, then chemically taste. Andrew said strong but not horrible, wouldn’t throw it away. Maybe if mixing this into something it wouldn’t be so bad, but as a dip, it’s not great.
Where to Buy: Daiya Store Locator
Ingredients for Daiya Homestyle Ranch Dressing: Non-GMO Expeller Pressed Canola Oil, Water, White Vinegar, Cane Sugar, Sea Salt, Potato Starch, Vegan Natural Flavours, Potato Protein Isolate, Vegan Cultured Dextrose, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Xanthan Gum, Spices, Yeast Extract, Herbs
Top 9 Allergens: None listed.
Price: $4.49
Wayfare Dairy Free Creamy Ranch Dip
Thoughts: This is one of the thickest and more of a dip than a dressing. It does seem kind of chunky. Not as strong of a flavor as we remember ranch being but overall we enjoyed it.
Where to Buy: Wayfare Store Locator
Ingredients For Wayfare Dairy Free Ranch: WayFare Dairy Free Base (Water, Organic Butter Beans), Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Garlic, Organic Cane Sugar, Sea Salt, Organic Gum Arabic, Organic Cultured Dextrose, Konjac Root Powder, Organic Onion Powder, Organic Citric Acid, Yeast Extract, Organic Long Pepper, Organic Dill, Lactic Acid, Organic Chive, Organic Parsley.
Top 9 Allergens: Coconut
Price: $5.99
Kite Hill Dairy Free Ranch Dip
Thoughts: Again like the Wayfare, this one is thicker like a dip. We didn’t like this at all. There was a weird taste to it that we couldn’t identify.
Where to Buy: Kite Hill Store Locator
Ingredients for Kite Hill Dairy Free Ranch: Almond Milk (Water, Almonds), Rice Starch, Salt, Dehydrated Onion, Garlic Powder, Spices, Cane Sugar, Lactic Acid Powder, Maltodextrin, Citric Acid, Xanthan Gum, Yeast Extract, Natural Flavors, Guar Gum, Live Active Cultures.
Top 9 Allergens: Almonds
Price: $3.99
Field + Farmer Plant Based Ranch Dressing
Thoughts: This was much darker (brown) than most of the ones we tried which we think throws people off when thinking about ranch. It was very liquidy and tasted watered down. Would be good on a salad, but definitely not a ranch taste.
Where to Buy: Field + Farmer Store Locator
Ingredients For Field + Farmer Plant Based Ranch: sunflower oil, cannellini beans, lemon juice, white vinegar, apple cider vinegar, salt, water, chia seeds, onion powder, garlic powder, nutritional yeast, black pepper, dried dill, dried chives
Top 9 Allergens: None listed.
Price: $3.99
Primal Kitchen Vegan Ranch Dressing & Marinade Avocado Oil
Thoughts: Not a fan. Tasted like vinegar mixed with some dill and that was it. Definitely didn’t like at all for a ranch variation, but it would be a decent salad dressing. It was another very liquidy brand.
Where to Buy: Whole Foods
Ingredients for Primal Kitchen Vegan Ranch: Expeller-pressed Canola Oil, Water, White Distilled Vinegar, Contains Less Than 2% of Lemon Juice Concentrate, Modified Food Starch, Pea Protein, Salt, Spice, Sugar, Fruit and Vegetable Juice (Color)
Top Allergens: None.
Price: $5.99
365 Whole Foods Organic Vegan Ranch Dressing
Thoughts: This one was thicker than the field and farmer and primal kitchen, but not as thick as the Daiya. It had a brownish hue. Wasn’t the best, but not the worst either.
Where to Buy: Whole Foods stores
Ingredients for 365 Whole Foods Vegan Ranch: Organic Highly Refined Soybean Oil, Water, Organic Distilled White Vinegar, Organic Cane Sugar, Contains Less Than 2% of the Following: Organic Pea Protein, Sea Salt, Organic Coconut Milk Powder (Organic Coconut Milk Powder, Organic Tapioca Maltodextrin, Organic Acacia Gum), Organic Lemon Juice Concentrate, Organic Guar Gum, Organic Gum Acacia, Organic Garlic Powder, Organic Onion Powder, Organic Dijon Mustard (Organic Distilled White Vinegar, Water, Organic Mustard Seed, Sea Salt, Organic Spices, Organic Paprika [Color and Spice], Organic Turmeric [Color and Spice]), Organic Spices
Top 9 Allergens: Soy, Coconut.
Price: $4.29
Follow Your Heart Vegan Ranch
Thoughts: When we got to this part of the video (shown above), we were like Finally! It has the right consistency, the right color and tastes just like ranch. Larisha said she felt like it was missing just a hint of something, but overall really good.
Where to Buy: Follow Your Heart’s Store Locator
Ingredients for Follow Your Heart Vegan Ranch: Vegenaise® (Expeller-Pressed Canola Oil, Filtered Water, Brown Rice Syrup, Apple Cider Vinegar, Soy Protein, Sea Salt, Mustard Flour, Lemon Juice Concentrate), Filtered Water, Apple Cider Vinegar, Olive Oil, Shelled Hemp Seeds, Cold-Pressed Flaxseed Oil, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Cold-Pressed Hemp Seed Oil, Spices, Mustard Flour, Xanthan Gum, Sea Salt, Natural Flavor,Garlic.
Top 9 Allergens: Soy.
Price: $3.99
Mill It Plant Based Classic Ranch
Thoughts: You also get nervous trying a brand that you’ve never even heard of, but in this case, it was a great experience. It is more on the dressing side, so thinner than the Follow Your Heart. It had a great flavor and Andrew said that this could surprise someone into thinking they were having regular ranch. Only wish the texture was a bit thicker.
Where to Buy: Mill It Store Locator
Ingredients for Mill It Plant Based Ranch: Organic Cultured Ancient Grain Buttermilk (Water, Organic Coconut Cream, Organic Sunflower Seed Butter, Organic Sorghum Flour, Organic Millet Flour, Cultures), Canola Oil, Distilled Vinegar, Spices, Salt, Xanthan Gum, Minced Onion, Garlic Powder, Locust Bean Gum, Gellan Gum.
Top 9 Allergens: Coconut
Price: $4.49
Hidden Valley Plant Powdered Vegan Ranch
Thoughts: Perfect color and a decent consistency, but immediately said it smelled off (not like expired but just not like ranch). It’s not the best, but it’s not the worst either. We just think there are better options and for such a strong powerhouse in the Ranch category for dairy based ranches, we think they could have done way better.
Where to Buy: Hidden Valley Store Locator (we’ve only heard this being found at Walmart)
Ingredients for Hidden Valley Vegan Ranch: Water, Vegetable Oil (Soybean and/or Canola), Sugar, Salt, Soybean Protein Isolate, Vinegar, Less Than 1% of: Spices, Phosphoric Acid, Garlic*, Onion*, Xanthan Gum, Modified Food Starch, Natural Flavors, Parsley with Nisin Preparation, Sorbic Acid, Calcium Disodium EDTA and Rosemary Extract added to Preserve Freshness. *Dried
Top 9 Allergens: Soy
Price: $2.98
Plant Perfect Chipotle Ranch Vegan Dressing
Thoughts: This brand does have a classic ranch, but we couldn’t find it. We found this at Sprouts and they didn’t even have a spot for a normal vegan ranch beside this one. It is very spicy and we didn’t get any ranch flavor. The texture is more of a dressing but not super thin like some of the ones we tried.
Where to Buy: Sprouts Farmers Market
Ingredients for Plant Perfect Vegan Ranch: Mid Oleic Sunflower Oil, Filtered Water, Organic Distilled White Vinegar, Organic Sugar, Sea Salt, Organic Soy Powder, Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, Onion, Garlic, Organic Chipotle, Modified Corn Starch, Black Pepper, Yeast Extract, Xanthan Gum, Organic Mustard Flour, Chives, Celery Seed, Parsley, Red Pepper, Mustard Oil.
Top 9 Allergens: Soy
Price: $6.99
Are these vegan ranch brands allergy friendly?
We listed the allergens under each but just so it’s easier to find we wanted to list it here as well.
All of these are vegan so they are automatically dairy free and egg free. None of them listed gluten, sesame or peanuts as an ingredients. They are also all fish and shellfish free.
That leaves soy, nuts and coconut as top allergens in the US.
Contains Coconut: Wayfare, 365 Whole Foods, Mill It
Coconut Soy: 365 Whole Foods, Follow Your Heart, Hidden Valley, Plant Perfect
Contains Almonds: Kite Hill
No Top 9 Allergens Listed: Daiya, Field + Farmer, Primal Kitchen

You guys do the BEST taste tests, thank you so much! My husband and I are going vegan in 2022 and reading your reviews has helped me build a great grocery list as we transition from dairy to plant-based 🙂 We just tried Follow Your Heart Ranch last night with some fries and WOW, I wouldn’t have been able to tell its not ranch! A bit of a dill taste almost, which I love. The texture and color were spot on. So I agree with you! Will have to look for Mill It to compare. Happy New Year!

So glad you’re enjoyed them!
