Frequently Asked Questions
Can I prep this ahead?
Yes! This vegan buttercream will last for 2 weeks in the fridge stored in an air tight container.
Can I make this top 8 Allergen friendly?
As long as you use a soy free vegan butter (we like Earth Balance soy free in the red tub) and a dairy free milk that’s safe (we like oat best) then this recipe is already Top 8 Free.
Can I make this oil free?
We get asked this question a lot. We do understand that many people are oil free for a variety of health and wellness reasons.
Obviously, if you omit the oil, in this case, coming from the vegan butter, then it’s no longer a vegan BUTTERcream and more of just an icing or a glaze.
However, it’s possible to do. Just omit the butter and proceed with the recipe.
How much frosting do I need?
This isn’t really a question that’s easy to answer. One complete recipe of this makes roughly 2 cups of buttercream.
When we make our large cinnamon rolls, this is enough for to generously cover all of them.
If you are doing a normal 9×13 sheet cake, a light icing on top of 24 cupcakes, or a more “naked” layered cake look then this should be enough vegan buttercream.
However, if you are doing piping designs on your cupcakes or a multi-layered full icing cake, then you are going to want to double or triple the amount.
How should I use nutmeg spice maple vegan buttercream?
First, we will not judge you if you just lick it off the spoon. No judgements here. It’s that good.
If you want a simple treat, then spread this across some graham crackers is really delicious.
