We taste tested 11 different vegan seafood or fish products! We’re dishing out all the details on which is the best in our vegan seafood review and taste test!
So many people have asked us to do a vegan fish and vegan seafood taste test. To be honest, this one made us more nervous than anything else. There’s not a lot of products on the market which to us means that there’s a lot of room for improvement.
But still, we decided to go for it! Today we are finally going to share the best store bought vegan seafood products in a review and taste test.
We had only tried the Gardein crabless bites (Larisha had) before going into the video so definitely curious and a whole lot of nerves going around how we’d feel about this one.
If you haven’t seen our other taste tests, we hope you’ll check those out as well.

Honestly can you believe we were able to find 11 different products? The crazy part is knowing that this isn’t all of them. There were other brands that we weren’t able to find or aren’t located near us.

PSA:
We know that everyone has different taste buds. What we may think is the best, may completely vary from what you actually like.
You may ultimately think our best is the worst and that’s okay. We created this video as hopefully a starting point for people and we can only go off our opinion.

What vegan seafood brands did we try?
Despite trying out a few different brands, we know that there are even more out there. We just didn’t find them local to us. The brands that we did find and try are:
- Sophies
- Gardein
- Quorn
- Loma Linda
- Good Catch
- Vegetarian Plus
How did we do the vegan seafood and fish taste test?
It was really quite simple.
We made the products according to the packages. We try to keep it neutral for our taste test videos so that we are focusing on the product and not a bunch of different toppings or seasonings or things to detract from the actual vegan products.
We were looking for mostly taste and texture. Our goal was to find the one closest to what we remember seafood and fish tasting like.
Thoughts on Vegan Tuna fish: The Good Catch one smelled the best going into the video. Loma Linda looked like jelly had been mixed into it and the Sophie’s resembled seitan. Overall, the “tuna” was not a great segment and we ultimately ended it with saying that’s not what we’d hoped for and we wouldn’t purchase them again

Are these vegan seafood brands allergy friendly?
We listed the allergens under each but just so it’s easier to find we wanted to list it here as well.
All of these are vegan so they are automatically dairy free and egg free. None of them listed sesame or peanuts as an ingredient. They are also all fish and shellfish free.
That leaves soy, gluten, nuts and coconut as top allergens in the US.
Contains Coconut: Quorn, Loma Linda
Contains Wheat: Quorn, Gardein (both)
Coconut Soy: Good Catch, Loma Linda, Gardein (filet)
No Top 9 Allergens Listed: Sophies (Tuna, Crab Cakes, Fish Fillets and Breaded Shrimp)
Who was the winner?
Okay. I put you through all that just to make you wait until here until I announce the winner. You know, wait with baited breath, type of thing! HA!
We didn’t rank these products, but we can tell you that most were just awful. We’d buy either of the Gardein products again but nothing else really. Possibly the Quorn fish sticks. But yea, just blah.
We hope that the market expands greatly in the next few years honestly.

Hands down the Gardein products are so close to the real thing that I didn’t even bother trying others. The Crabless Cakes and Fishless Filets are two of my favorite, but I use so many of their other products as well, especially when I need to cook a quick meal. Their products are also a great way to introduce plant based foods to kids! Thank you for sharing.
