Notes on ingredients

Chickpeas
Chickpeas are the protein source for the recipe as well as then vegan chicken replacement. Chickpeas are the easiest and most budget friendly option for replacing chicken in vegan recipes.
Substitute: You could do any type of white bean instead, but you could also do soy curls cut into thirds or you can use grilled vegan chicken strips.
Vegetables
Onions, carrots, celery, and garlic start the recipe off by sauteing and building flavors. Towards the end of the recipe, you’ll add in green peas.
Substitute: While we recommend keeping the base ingredients, you could get creative when adding more ensuring just that they good in the same amount of time.
Other ingredients could include: peppers, potatoes, corn, green beans, and/or mushrooms.
Coconut Milk
We love using canned coconut milk whenever we need a liquid in a sauce. Because of the high fat content, coconut milk is super creamy and mimics a heavy cream flavor and texture.
Substitute: Any non-dairy milk will work for for this recipe.

We have not tried this recipe for gluten free dumplings at this time so cannot recommend a gluten free variation. As far as other top allergens, just make sure to use a safe for you non-dairy milk and butter.

This was one of the best vegan recipes I’ve ever made. Seriously. The dumplings were fantastic. And the overall flavors are like eating chicken and dumplings of my childhood. I substituted kale as I didn’t have any peas and left out the allspice and nutmeg as that flavor profile is not my favorite. I forwarded this recipe to all my adult kids and will definitely make again! Thanks soo much!
So happy to hear that it was a hit!
I’m new to plant-based eating but decided to give this dish a try. It was delicious and the leftovers tasted even better. I will be adding this to my rotation of meals for sure.
Welcome to this lifestyle! Hope it’s going well. Glad you gave it a try and enjoyed it!
I am planning to make this in the near future. do you have a link to those little glass containers you mix the spices with?
So I’m not sure if you are watching on Tiktok/Instagram or Youtube since I used two different. If IG/TT – those little jars are actually Yoplait Oui NOn-Dairy yogurt containers lol. I love them for mixing little things. If Youtube – they are just glass mixing bowls you can find at my affiliate link here: https://amzn.to/4jTIsml

Annyira örülök, hogy tetszett! (Using Google Translate)
I made this recipe for dinner last night & it was amazing. The only thing I did differently was add mushrooms because we had some that needed to be used. My husband who is often skeptical about meals that do not contain meat, spent the whole night raving about this recipe. Thank you so much!
Love when that happens!
Best comfort food recipe! I substituted the garbanzo beans for cannellini. Dumplings were nice and tender. Very flavorful and creamy. Best part, one pot!
My meat eating boys were in love with the meal. They even said I can keep this on rotation, especially for the colder months.
I love that so much!
This was so wonderful and comforting! Perfect recipe for a cold winter night. I was able to cut the vegan butter in half with good results and added cauliflower to the veggies.
Sounds wonderful! Glad you enjoyed
