We compared 6 different vegan ramen options to see side by side which is the best in taste and texture. Check out our vegan ramen review and taste test.
Today we’re comparing vegan ramen options! In this vegan ramen review and taste test, we grabbed 6 easy to find vegan ramen options and put them to a side by side test.
We knew Trader Joe’s had one so we tried grabbed that one first. The others, we all found at Whole Foods. We are sure they are available other places as well, but since we found so many there, we decided that we had enough. We do know that there are other options out there as well. That just means that we will have to do an additional vegan ramen/noodles reviews in the future.
We wanted to try these for taste and noodle texture as we feel those are the most important things when making a vegan instant ramen to go.

PSA:
We know that everyone has different taste buds. What we may think is the best, may completely vary from what you actually like.
You may ultimately think our best is the worst and that’s okay. We created this video as hopefully a starting point for people and we can only go off our opinion.
What vegan ramen brands did we try?
The brands that we tried for this video are:
- Trader Joe’s
- Dr. McDougall’s
- Lotus Foods (there are 2 from this brand)
- Ocean’s Halo
- Star Anise
We only remember trying one of these brands before (Trader Joe’s). However, we had never tried any of them side by side with other brands which we believe is really important when it comes to taste testing.
How did we do the vegan ramen taste test?
For each of the vegan ramens, we made according to the packaged instructions, most just recommending to add hot, boiling water and then waiting for them to cook. Then compared for taste and texture.
What are the vegan ramen brands?
Trader Joe’s Miso Ramen Soup Review
Thoughts: When cooking according to the packaged instructions, we thought they were more al dente in texture. However, if you let it sit there for a few extra minutes, it’s the perfect texture (at least to us). We really enjoyed the flavor and subtle umami flavor of this one.
Allergens: Soy, Wheat, Sesame.
Ingredients: RAMEN NOODLES (UNBLEACHED WHEAT FLOUR, SEA SALT, VITAL WHEAT GLUTEN), SEASONING PACKET (DRIED MISO [SOYBEANS, CULTURED RICE {RICE, ASPERGILLUS ORYZAE}, SALT], YEAST EXTRACT, POTATO STARCH, NATURAL FLAVORS, SUGAR, DRIED WAKAME SEAWEED, DRIED GREEN ONION, SALT, DRIED ONION, DRIED GARLIC, DRIED CABBAGE, SHIITAKE MUSHROOM POWDER, SPICES), OIL PACKET (SUNFLOWER OIL, TOASTED SESAME OIL).

Star Anise Foods Vietnamese Pho Noodle Soup Bowl Review
Thoughts: We liked the texture of these noodles, but there was something off about the taste of this. We think that it may be the star anise or lemongrass inside of the ingredients, but overall not a fan of this one.
Their website also listed a Toasted Garlic and Spicy Turmeric versions of the Pho Noodle Soup Bowl, but our local store did not carry those.
Allergens: Coconut.
Ingredients: Brown Rice Noodles: Brown Rice, Water, Cassava. Packet: Rice Bran Oil, Vinegar, Coconut Palm Sugar, Coconut Milk, Shallot, Garlic, Salt, Lemongrass, Organic Maltodextrin, Green Onion, Ginger, Turmeric, Sunflower Lecithin, Lime, Rosemary Extract, Cinnamon, Curry Powder (Turmeric, Coriander, Cumin, Cinnamon, Pepper, Bay Leaves, Licorice, Cardamom, Clove), Star Anise.

Ocean’s Halo Plant-Based Vegan Chicken Instant Noodle Soup Review
Thoughts: When we opened this one after the recommended time, there was no broth remaining (the noodles had soaked up all the water that we poured inside. It was very salty. The noodle texture was good. Larisha thought it was a bit bland, but Andrew said he thought it had some flavor. Overall, just okay and would be easy to doctor up the flavor at home and add more broth as well.
They also have a vegan beef bowl and vegan Thai coconut bowl.
Allergens: Wheat, Sesame.
Ingredients: Organic Ramen Noodle: Organic Wheat, Water, Sea Salt., Organic Vegan Chicken Broth Spice Packet: Organic Cane Sugar, Sea Salt, Organic Yeast Extract, Organic Corn Starch, Organic Onion Powder, Organic Garlic Powder, Organic Vegan Chicken Flavor (Organic Maltodextrin, Organic Gum Acacia, Organic Safflower Oil, Natural & Organic Flavors), Organic Ginger Powder, Organic Sesame Oil, Citric Acid, Organic Dried Kelp, Organic Cayenne Pepper, Organic Mushroom Powder., Organic Vegetable Packet: Organic Dried Green Onion, Organic Dried Carrots, Organic Dried Bok Choy, Organic Dried Corn

Lotus Foods Tom Yum Rice Ramen Noodle Soup Review
Thoughts: Overall, just not a fan of this one either. There is a bit of spice to this one. Again, thinking it may be the lemongrass inside of it that we just may not be a fan of.
There is also a Garlicky Veggie Rice Ramen Noodle Soup variation. Note: The Spicy Kimchi version is NOT vegan.
Allergens: None listed.
Ingredients: Organic Brown Rice Flour, Salt, Lime Powder, Yeast Extract, Onion Powder, Mushroom Powder, Lemongrass Powder, Carrot Pieces, Ginger Powder, Chili Powder, Garlic Powder, Citric Acid, Scallion Flakes, Mushroom Pieces, Tomato Pieces, Sugar, Cilantro Flakes
Price: $2.69
Where to Buy: We found at Whole Foods or use their Lotus Foods Store Locator.
Lotus Foods Jade Pearl Rice Ramen Wakame Miso Soup Review
Thoughts: The noodles themselves are green from the package and they remain a lighter green once cooked, which we didn’t expect looking at the package. There are big pieces of seaweed (Wakame) inside of the noodles as well. The wakame flavor is so strong! Larisha said (and Andrew agreed) that it tasted like warm ocean water. The texture of the noodles themselves were great.
There is also a Millet & Brown Rice Ramen in Red Miso Soup flavor.
Allergens: Soy.
Ingredients: *Brown Rice Flour, *White Rice Flour, Bamboo Extract., Soup Pack: White Miso Powder (Soybeans, Rice, Salt), Soybean Powder, Salt, Onion Powder, Tamari Powder (Soybeans, Rice Salt), Dried Wakame Seaweed, Dried Parsley.

Where to Buy: We found at Whole Foods or use their Lotus Foods Store Locator.
Dr. McDougall’s Vegan Miso Ramen Noodle Soup Review
Thoughts: We liked this one a lot. The broth is a thicker consistency than the Trader Joe’s one and also a bit more flavor in the broth than the Trader Joe’s one. And the noodles had a consistently good texture.
They also have Vegan Ramen Chicken Flavor, Vegan Hot & Sour Noodle Soup, Vegan Pad Thai Noodle Soup, and Vegan Spring Onion Noodle Soup.
Allergens: Wheat, Soy.
Ingredients: Organic Unbleached Wheat Flour, Miso Powder (Soybeans, Cultured Rice [Rice, Aspergillus Oryzae], Salt), Organic Potato Starch, Yeast Extracts, Identity Preserved Soy Protein*, Organic Sugar, Sea Salt, Organic Wheat Gluten, Kombu Seaweed*, Onion*, Garlic*, Wakame*, Green Onion*.

Who was the winner?
All that above, just to get here and see who the winner is!
We had a very clear top 2 vegan ramen options.
For us the Dr. McDougall’s was the best overall and then the Trader Joe’s Version.
With taste and price on the remaining ones, we said we wouldn’t purchase them again.
We also mentioned that Top Ramen makes a soy flavor that is cheap and affordable but it is harder to find and that we would likely just keep buying and making that.
