How did we do the vegan breakfast sausage taste test?
It was really quite simple.
We cooked each breakfast sausage package according to the packaged instructions and then ate them as close to the finishing time as possible for the most accuracy.
We were looking for mostly taste and texture.
365 Whole Foods Market Meatless Plant-Based Breakfast Patties Review
Thoughts: We thought it was nice. The taste and texture was pretty good but it felt like they stopped just short of have one of the best flavors out of all of them. It’s a great price for what you get.

Thoughts: The texture was nice, but slightly dry. We didn’t feel like there was any sausage flavor in there. It tasted very bland to Larisha and pretty salty to Andrew.

Morningstar Farms Veggie Original Sausage Patties Review
Thoughts: Super disappointed here because we like many Morningstar Farms items. This was probably the worst ones. It was very mushy. Larisha spit this one out because of the texture. It was very fibrous.

Meatless Farm Plant-Based Breakfast Patties Review
Thoughts: Andrew spit this one out and Larisha struggled to get it down. It was really really gross and it tastes more gross the longer you chew. We could’t figure out what the taste really was, but we didn’t like it.

Jack & Annie’s Savory Breakfast Jack Sausage
Thoughts: Larisha really liked this one. Andrew said that it tasted like fast food sausage that had been sitting a little too long. It is very thin which neither of us liked. It had a great sausage flavor and the texture and juiciness was nice.

Impossible Sausage Made From Plants Review
Thoughts: Both versions of Impossible are VERY oily. It is nice that you get to shape your own here because you can determine the size; however, we know that when you are looking for something quick that could also be a downside. The taste and texture of these are great. It does taste more like sausage than many of the other ones; however, it does taste like there is something else mixed in – like another type of meat. There was grease even while cooking making it the most realistic that we remember. The spicy one is pretty spicy- the spiciest out of the four spicy version.

Hilary’s Organic Plant Based Meatless Breakfast Sausage Review
Thoughts: These are great for people who need a healthier option or need a Top 8 Free option. These are not our very, especially the spicy. They were dry and very crumbly. That being said the Apple Maple is much better. The spicy one is much spicier than the other spicy options.

Gardein Plant Based Breakfast Saus’ge Patties Review
Thoughts: While we love Gardein brand overall, the sausage was a little bit of a miss for us. The spicy version was more of a chipotle spice. It is softer than some of the other ones, but the texture was pretty good overall. It doesn’t taste much like sausage though. The original version Larisha compared to a hot dog taste and Andrew said like bratwurst. Overall, not a fan.

Fieldroast Plant Based Breakfast Sausage Patties Classic Recipe Review
Thoughts: The size of this one was one of the biggest ones that we had tried. It was hard to cut through this compared to some of the other ones. It was also pretty dry compared to the others and the texture was tough to chew. There was a weird artificial taste that overall we just didn’t like.

Beyond Meat Beyond Breakfast Sausage Plant-Based Patties Review
Thoughts: For both varieties the texture is great, but they are very small. The spicy one has a great mild spicy, it’s not overly spicy. The original one is also great for the same reason. There’s a little chewiness that Larisha thought could be improved on, but ultimately she thought this was the best one.

Who was the winner?
All that waiting just to get here and see.
The Beyond and Impossible were our favorites. Beyond for Larisha and Impossible for Andrew.
For a great “healthier” version the Apple Maple from Hilary’s is a great option though more crumbly than traditional sausage.
Whole Foods and Jack and Annie’s (for Larisha) were also great options.
We would NOT recommend Meatless Farm or Morningstar Farms.
Tyler
Thank you both for your review and video. I’m just getting started going meatless and found Morningstar tasted like nothing, but I didn’t want to waste time and money buying others that might disappoint. Super helpful!
Larisha Bernard
So glad you found it helpful
Nick
im not vegan by any means but I’ve gotten the Field and Roast apple and mapple sausage links and loved them. Bought some more tonight for tomorrow’s breakfast. I really like the flavor and they’re definitely softer than a real sausage but I like the texture, especially if you get the outside crispy
Larisha Bernard
Glad you like them!
Sav
Jack and Annies absolutely blew my mind.
LarishaBernard

Beyond has some sausage links that’s great and I like gardein but the Hilary taste terrible!!!! It taste nothing like sausage like you all spit out the meatless farm that’s how Hilary was also incogmeato has a great sausage
Quana Alexander
I have had a few of these and my top two are: 1. Impossible and 2. Beyond.
I want to try the Whole Foods, Jack & Annie’s, and Hilary’s. My two year old loves vegan sausage. So far, his favorite is Beyond.

Glad you have some favs already!
