Vegan Fried Oreos

Just 8 ingredients is all you need for vegan fried Oreos. You will be shocked at how easy it is to make this fair food favorite.

  • 1/2 tbsp ground flax seeds
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup + 2 tbsp dairy free milk (we like oat)
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla
  • 15 oreos or other chocolate sandwich cookies (can use any variety of the cream filled cookie)
  • oil for frying
  • powdered sugar for topping


  • Pour oil into a deep fryer or large heavy pot and heat to 375 degrees F.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the flax seeds and water. Set aside. (This makes vegan flax egg). Let set aside for 10 minutes.
  • In a bowl, add the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together.
  • After 10 minutes, add the dairy free milk, vanilla, and the flax egg. Whisk together just until combined.
    *You should have a thick pancake like batter. See video for a visual if needed.
  • Once your oil has come to temperature, add an oreo to the batter and coat both sides as much as possible.
  • Hold over the hot oil and carefully drop down. If needed, use a metal fork to lower.
  • Let cook for 1-2 minutes until golden and use tongs or a fork to carefully flip over to other side.
  • Very carefully, using tongs, remove to cooling rack or paper towel lined plate. Allow to cool for 5 minutes.
  • Repeat with remaining chocolate sandwich cookies. Should yield 15 fried oreos.
  • Top with powdered sugar once cooled. Best served immediately.
